Physical and Emotional Consequences of Alcoholism

Alcohol Addiction, or alcoholism weaks havoc not only in the life of the alcoholic but also in the lives of their family, friends and co-workers .
Alcoholism usually leads to problems in a relationship, health troubles, problems at work or school and finacial difficulties to name a few. These are all indirect consequences of alcoholism.

The Emotional Cost of Alcoholism:

A common consequence of alcoholism is depression. Alcohol depresses the central nervous system and makes the individual more depressed. Someone addicted to alcohol finds it difficult to control their emotions, an insecure person will become more insecure and a violent person will be more inclined to have violent outbursts whils drinking.

Alcoholism also affects the individuals motivation and the alcoholic will demonstrate reduced performance in their work or studies. and eventually will withdraw as alcoholism demands more and more of their attention. Alcoholism is also a high contributing factor in cases of suicide.

Studies have also indicated that alcohol addiction is likely to induce anxiety disorders, depression, and even delusions.

The Physical Consequences of Alcoholism.

Alcohol addiction may lead to stomach disorders including: ulcers, pancreatitus, pancreatic cancer, and gastritis.

Alcoholism also causes cardio vascular complications including cardiomyopathy and hypertension.

Alcohol addiction seriously demans the immune system and people troubled by alcohol abuse are likely to experience severe infections for example, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and various types of cancer.

Alcohol addiction can also damage the peripheral and central nervous system, leading to serious cognitive deterioration.

Alcohol-dependent males may also experience impotency, testicular wasting and gynecomastia.

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause mental retardation, facial disfigurement and/or other neurological problems like foetal alcohol syndrome.

If you, or someone you care have a problem with alcoholism, do something about the problem before it becomes too severe. The sooner you do something about the problem the better. Please visit our forum for details about how to take control of this destructive and life threatening habit.
